Are the Ab-Lounge type machines really easy on your lower back and neck?

I have had two spine-fusion surgeries but I exercise daily (powerwalking). I really need to work on my core muscles but crunches on the floor become too painful for me after a few days of them. I'd like to hear from someone with experience about this before I buy one of these machines.

I have some discs in my lumbar region that are always bulging some, with flare-ups they get severely bulging…the ab lounge did intensify my pain on use..it is gathering dust next to my total gym…which is great
