what brand of dog food is a combination of good nutrition and cost value?

I actually save by feeding a premium kibble, so buying a cheaper food isn't a savings at all..
I feed Canidae, and am amazed at the difference in my dogs. I have tried most of the quality kibbles over the past 38 years of dog breeding, but Canidae is the best one I have tried.(.I have heard of excess weight gain with Canidae, but not in my breed)….
There are other great kibbles out there, such as Innova, Wellness, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Wysong, and others, but of those, Caniidae is the one that keeps the dental health of my dogs the best..Even my OLD dogs have sparkling white teeth, without a sign of tartar…
If you are not feeding a premium kibble, you are paying about 7 cents a pound for the poop (waste) I've got much better things to spend money on than that! lol

well, the best one I know of is Nutrience. I don't know if it's only available in Canada though.

I hear Innova (sp?) is good.

The best by far is Royal Canin. It is, however, also the most expensive that i've seen.

i used to feed that brand to my cat–and he never ever got sick, had a beautiful coat, and no bad breath.

i have a puppy now, and i feed her Royal Canin. She too has a beautiful coat, healthy bowels and never gets sick…

Food you make yourself, you know what is going into it, and you can buy the best for your dog. Most commercial dog foods list corn meal as their first ingredient, how many dogs do you know want to eat cornmeal as their main food? The fats come from old restaurant deepfryers. Not what I want to feed my pets.

Our dogs are show dogs and Ol' Roy is what we feed our beagles. Our chihuahua is fed Pedigree. Either one is great! Each one has 21% protein and dogs certainly do need a lot of protein. Any less protein I will not buy.

Whatever you do, don't purchase Euchinuba. It is full of fillers and will keep your dog going number 2 all the time!

Foods such as Ole' Roy are the absolute worst foods you can feed. They are comparatable to feeding your dog sawdust with gravy poured over it so steer clear of these foods. Pedigree, Alpo, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Kibbles & Bits, etc aren't good either. They are a step above Ole' Roy but not by much. They contain a lot of cheap fillers, sugars & by products and some of them even contain dyes.
You should be looking for good quality foods with no corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, by products, dyes or chemical preservatives..and with a named meat source as at least the first 2 ingredients..
Look for foods such as Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Wellness, California Natural, Wysong, Blue Buffalo.

If you have small to medium breed of dog look for foods taht have a protein level of 24% or more..if you have a large breed you will want ot keep it in the 23 -26% range and Giant Breeds you will need 24% or less especially if you have a giant breed 12 months old or under.

The better the quality of food the more nutritional value your dog will get from it and the less they will need to eat and the less they will poop too.
