some exercises to prepare and to lose weight such as running, cruches etc?

Never drink another soda again - even diet soda. Stop eating processed foods. Eat only vegetables, chicken (some lean beef), and very little carbohydrates. Drink water all the time. Never set foot in any fast food craphole again.

Forget about spitting and wearing extra clothes. Those are ignorant remarks and dangerous. If water is available, spend as much time as you can swimming until you are exhausted without actually drowning. Swimming is the best form of exercise because it works the whole body while keeping you cool and not stressing your joints. That fatigue you feel after a long day of goofing around in water is proof that you are burning calories, and you probably did not even notice. If you cannot swim, it is especially important to practice, because you will be swimming at MCRD in uniform, boots, and helmet while carrying a rifle.

If you don’t have access to water, start running. Start with a single mile and try to run it in 12 minutes or less. Stay hydrated throughout the day so that your cells are fully engorged with water. Run and walk if needed in intervals until you can get your mile down to 10 minutes. Then start running longer distances. You should be able to run longer distances of 5 to 8 miles averaging 10 minutes per mile by the time you go to boot. That’s a good place to be at, and eventually you will be running 6 minute miles as you train with your platoon.

Incidently, get a decent pair of shoes to run in and bring them with you so you aren’t stuck with the crap ones that get issued. A decent pair costs about $80.00 and you should be fitted for them at a store that specializes in running shoes for serious runners. They can make sure any pronation problem you may have is taken care of. Bring in a pair of shoes you have worn for a while so they can examine the soles for wear pattern.

Finally, watch Full Metal Jacket for inspiration. Those were the good old days!

I can tell you one easy weigh to loose weight and I’m not lying. It’s simple. If you really want to lose weight you have to dedicate your time to it. Running in winter clothes during the summer works great. You’ll sweat like a maniac and you’ll lose weight fast. Also carry a bottle around wherever you go and spit in it constantly that takes pounds off like crazy. These are two things you can do during the day. Morning and nights you can work on stomach doing crunches just do them, there’s no need for number because everyones abilities are different. If your burning, you’re doing work. How about turning some of that fat into muscle, muscle weighs more than fat but it will help “look” better physically. Hit the gym, losing weight is not that hard it’s just the effort people have to put in to it.

Muscle mass is less important.. MUCH less important, in fact, than endurance, and building strength and flexibility in your legs, feet, and ankles. The first month of boot the weight will fall off… so don’t worry about going in at your perfect weight… just focus on building endurance, lung capacity for the runs, and making sure your shins, ankles, feet, and knees are prepared to spend hours marching and forming up. (Most of the first phase injuries are shinsplints, stress fractures, and knee/feet/ankle problems.)

Focus on the running and eat healthfully… cut out carbonated drinks, increase your lean proteins and limit your carbs… and start drinking 1/2 gallon or so of water every single day. The weight will fly off and you’ll be well prepared for the physical side of boot camp.

Be careful exercising in winter clothes during the summer months. Ya, you will sweat but you can also suffer heat exhaustion, which if bad enough can land you in a coma. Plus, as soon as you rehydrate after exercising, ie drinking water, you will replace the fluids lost through exercising.

I am working on loosing weight for the Navy. I run four miles every evening. I also do crunches, flutter kicks, and push ups. It is all about endurance, and having the right mind set. Work out hard now, and it will pay off in basic.

    Good Luck!

Watch your diet and put emphasis on cardio. Of all things, endurance is probably the most important thing that you need for this type of work. The boot camp will fill in the rest (strength, power, speed, etc…)

You can try my current routine that I do every other day:

-3 sets of 25 slow push ups. When I say slow, I mean controlled. 3 seconds up, 3 seconds down. Legs elevated on chair so that at the extended position, your lower back and legs are in a line

-3 sets of 15 slow pull ups. Palms face up and go all the way up and down.

-3 sets of 25 slow hanging leg raises. This is a more advanced abdominal exercise, so just stick to crunches for the meanwhile

-3 sets of 25 slow crunches.

-4 mile jog in under 35 minutes (on a running trail, none of that treadmill bull shit you young kids seem to get a hard on for nowadays)
    OR
-30 minutes of swimming laps without stopping
    OR
    -30 minute bike ride

Pay attention to the words "Slow" and "Controlled". Don't jerk around with the exercises, do them with proper form, and don't cheat. I'm 58 years old and I do all of this in under an hour. Now, if you've been sitting on your ass your entire life, don't expect yourself to be doing all of this on your first try. In fact, chances are, you won't be able to do half of this on your first try. But don't worry, you'll get better at it as you build up. And if you become a Marine, you'll definitely have to do better than this. I remember when I was in my prime, I could do this entire workout without hardly breaking a sweat. So, start off by doing as much as you can and eventually, you'll work up to it.

    As for your diet:

Make the core of your diet plant foods. I'm not saying that you have to give up meat, I am saying that if you want to lose fat and if you want to get rid of that spare tire around your waist, you're gonna have to cut back on the sugars and fats. By making the core of your diet plant foods, you will achieve that goal. Eating better is not only good for your health, it teaches discipline as well.

Discipline is probably the number one thing that you will need to have if you want to be in the Marines. Without it, you will fail to become a Marine and you will surely fail at life for that matter as well.

EDIT: ga4ljd, you're giving him bad advice. There is no "easy" way to losing weight. It takes time, patience, and effort like every other physical activity. And I wouldn't be running around in the summer wearing a winter jacket unless I was looking forward to a brain aneurysm. Sweating does not necessarily mean losing calories. Infact, the polar opposite is true. If you run with light clothing during the winter time, you'll burn far more calories than running in the summer with winter clothes, because your body will be cold and it will have to burn more calories to keep itself warm. And running in the winter with light clothing isn't dangerous either, unless the temperature is around freezing.
