Compared to the tread climber, various elliptical trainers, stationary bikes etc.
I do a lot of gym and fitness work and I despise treadmills!
Running is a fantastic cardio but stay away from treadmills, buy a decent pair of running shoes and go jogging outside!
Another great exercise which actually uses the most muscles is swimming, it is good for cardio and will burn carbs!

Running is a complex and coordinated process that involves the entire body.
Running can assist people in losing weight and staying in shape. Different speeds and distances are appropriate for different individual health and fitness levels. For new runners, it takes time to get into shape, the key is consistency and a slow increase in speed and distance. While running, it is best to pay attention to how ones body feels, if a runner is gasping for breath or feels exhausted when they run, it may be beneficial to slow down or try a shorter distance for a few weeks, and if a runner feels that their pace or distance is no longer challenging, he or she may want to speed up, or run farther.

Yes, but there are alternatives. Grab a pair of weights in each hand, then step on a bench for 5 rep starting your left foot, then do the same for right foot. You jump on/off a stair with your left or right foot alternating.

Swimming or a versa-climber are better because they use upper and lower body at the same time. Other than that running is probably the best, and definitely easier to manage as far as not needing extra equipment.
